Samsung Galaxy S25 Android 17 Update Arrives Late September: What to Expect

Android 17 Arrival for Samsung Galaxy S25

Samsung has started pushing Android 17 to its newest flagship line, beginning with the Galaxy S26 series on 16 September. The same software package, branded as One UI 9, is slated to reach the previous generation Samsung Galaxy S25 shortly after.

Expected Rollout Date

According to reports from Android Authority, the first Samsung Galaxy S25 devices should see the update on Monday 28 September. While Samsung has not issued an official global statement, a notice from Samsung Thailand references that date, suggesting a regional launch that could expand to other Asian markets within days.

One UI 9 Features for Samsung Galaxy S25

One UI 9 builds on Android 17 with several Samsung‑specific enhancements. Users can expect refined notification controls, a refreshed quick settings panel, and improved integration with Samsung DeX. The update also adds new camera software tweaks that aim to boost low‑light performance on the Samsung Galaxy S25.

Potential Early‑Adopter Issues

New major releases sometimes bring bugs during the first few days. Google’s own Pixel phones experienced Wi‑Fi drops and app crashes after Android 17 launched. Although no widespread problems have been reported on Samsung devices yet, early adopters of the Samsung Galaxy S25 update may want to hold off for a few days to let Samsung address any teething issues.

Regional Differences in the Rollout

The 28 September date applies specifically to Thailand and possibly other parts of Asia. Users in Europe, North America and other regions should anticipate a slightly later arrival, as Samsung typically staggers updates to manage server load and gather early feedback.

Impact on Older Samsung Models

Samsung has not disclosed exact timelines for the Galaxy S24, S23 or the A‑series devices. Historically, the company prioritises its flagship S line for major OS upgrades, with mid‑range and budget phones receiving the update several weeks or months later.

How This Compares With Competing Brands

Apple’s iPad Air M2 and Apple Watch Series 10 are also due for software refreshes this fall, though they follow a different cadence. Apple typically releases iOS updates in September, aligning with new hardware announcements. Samsung’s staggered approach means the Samsung Galaxy S25 may receive Android 17 around the same time as the iPad Air M2 gets iPadOS 18, offering consumers comparable new‑feature experiences across ecosystems.

Should You Update Immediately?

If you own a Samsung Galaxy S25 and are eager to explore Android 17’s new capabilities, the update will be available as soon as it appears in your device’s settings. However, if you prefer a stable experience, waiting a week or two for Samsung to release any hotfixes could be prudent.

Where to Check Update Availability

To see if the Android 17 update is ready for your Samsung Galaxy S25, open Settings, navigate to Software Update and tap Check for Updates. The One UI 9 package will be listed alongside the Android version number.

Final Thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Update

The upcoming Android 17 rollout marks a significant software milestone for Samsung’s flagship lineup. With One UI 9 delivering both aesthetic and functional upgrades, the Samsung Galaxy S25 is set to stay competitive against other premium devices like the Apple Watch Series 10 and iPad Air M2. Whether you choose to update right away or wait for early patches, the new software promises a smoother, more integrated mobile experience.

Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra gains slightly faster wired charging with new optimisation technique

Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra being plugged in with a fast charger

New charging optimisation for Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra

Samsung has long lagged behind rivals when it comes to charging speed. The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra introduced a respectable 60W wired charging rate, but the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra is set to improve on that figure without raising the wattage ceiling. According to X tipster Walle, the S27 Ultra will keep the 60W provision while employing a new charging optimisation that lets the device sustain 55W to 56W for a longer period during the initial charging phase. This subtle tweak translates into a charging experience that is a few percent quicker than the S26 Ultra.

How the S27 Ultra achieves faster charging

The optimisation works by managing the power delivery curve more efficiently. In typical fast‑charging scenarios, a phone starts at a high wattage and then drops the rate as the battery fills to avoid overheating. Samsung‘s new algorithm extends the plateau where the device operates near its maximum 55W‑56W level, allowing more energy to be transferred before the thermal throttling point is reached. The result is a slightly higher average charging speed, estimated at a 2 to 3 percent improvement over the previous model.

Comparison with rival charging technologies

Competitors such as Xiaomi and Oppo regularly advertise 100W or even 200W charging solutions. While those numbers sound impressive, the ultra‑high rates are only sustainable for a short window before heat management forces a rapid decline in power. Samsung’s approach does not chase headline‑grabbing wattage; instead it focuses on a steadier, more controlled charge that maximises the time spent at near‑maximum power. For users who value a reliable and safe charging routine, the S27 Ultra’s method may feel more practical than a brief burst of 100W that quickly tapers off.

Impact of a larger battery capacity

Rumours suggest the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra will house a 5700mAh battery, a noticeable jump from the 5000mAh cell in the S26 Ultra. A larger battery typically means longer charging times, but the new optimisation helps offset that drawback. By keeping the 55W‑56W band active for a longer stretch, the S27 Ultra can fill its bigger battery at a pace that feels comparable to the previous generation, despite the added capacity.

What this means for everyday users

For most owners, the improvement will be subtle but welcome. A 2 to 3 percent faster charge may shave a few minutes off a full charge cycle, which adds up over daily use. Moreover, the steadier power curve reduces heat buildup, potentially extending battery longevity. Users who already rely on Samsung’s ecosystem—such as pairing the phone with a Galaxy Watch 6 or using Samsung DeX—will appreciate the consistent charging experience without needing to invest in third‑party 100W chargers.

In summary, the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra does not reinvent fast charging, but it refines the process enough to deliver a marginally quicker fill time while supporting a larger 5700mAh battery. As the smartphone market continues to push wattage limits, Samsung’s focus on optimisation rather than raw numbers could set a new standard for balanced, efficient charging.

Samsung Galaxy S27 Camera Changes

Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra and Pro: Camera Changes Ahead

Details have emerged about the camera set-up of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra and Galaxy S27 Pro, suggesting a notable cut in costs. The Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra may ditch the secondary telephoto camera, a feature that has been part of the Ultra series for years. Instead, it will have a single 50Mp telephoto lens with 5x zoom.

Established Samsung leaker Ice Universe has confirmed this claim, stating that there will only be one telephoto camera in the Galaxy S27 Ultra. This change is reportedly an attempt to reduce manufacturing costs, which have been escalating rapidly in 2026. The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, for example, has seen a significant price increase compared to its predecessor, without offering huge spec advances.

The Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro, on the other hand, will utilise a lesser 12-megapixel 3x telephoto camera, accompanying a 200Mp main camera and a 50Mp ultra-wide camera. This set-up is similar to the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and its likely successor. Previous reports have claimed that the Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro will closely resemble the Ultra model, but with a smaller 6.47-inch OLED screen and no S Pen stylus.

The removal of the secondary telephoto camera may not be a significant loss, given the advances in virtual zoom techniques in relation to the Ultra line’s huge 200Mp main sensor. The 3x telephoto camera component is getting a little long in the tooth, and its usefulness has decreased over time. The Samsung Galaxy S25, for example, has a similar camera set-up, but with a lower-resolution main sensor.

The Samsung Galaxy S27 series is expected to launch in early 2027, with the Ultra and Pro models likely to be the flagship devices. The Apple iPhone 14 Pro and Google Pixel 7 Pro will be their main competitors in the UK market. The new camera set-up may result in a price freeze compared to the Galaxy S26 models, but this is yet to be confirmed.

In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra and Pro are expected to have significant camera changes, with the Ultra model ditching the secondary telephoto camera and the Pro model using a lesser 12-megapixel 3x telephoto camera. These changes are likely to reduce manufacturing costs and may result in a price freeze compared to the previous models. The Samsung Galaxy S27 series will be an exciting release, and we will have to wait and see how these changes affect the overall performance of the devices.

Samsung Galaxy Ring 2 No Show

Where was the Samsung Galaxy Ring 2 at Galaxy Unpacked?

Last week’s Galaxy Unpacked event in London was a successful launch, with the arrival of new Samsung Galaxy Z foldable phones, Samsung Galaxy Watch wearables, and another look at its upcoming Samsung Galaxy Glasses.

However, something I was hoping for was a glaring omission from the event – the Samsung Galaxy Ring 2. I watched the Unpacked live stream right to the bitter end, just in case there was a surprise teaser for the smart ring. After all, that’s how Samsung first revealed the original model way back at Unpacked in January 2024 to everyone’s shock.

It took six months until the Samsung Galaxy Ring launched properly, meaning that Samsung’s July 2026 Unpacked lined up perfectly for a two-year refresh for its smart ring. The original Samsung Galaxy Ring was a great device, but it’s time for a follow-up, especially with the likes of the Oura Ring 5 and Fitbit Air being released.

What about the competition?

Oura launched the Ring 5 way sooner than expected, and it’s also a big year for screenless fitness trackers with the arrival of the Fitbit Air and Garmin Cirqa to name just two. The Apple Watch Series 10 and iPad Air M2 may not be direct competitors, but they are still relevant in the tech market.

Samsung should be striking now when people may be considering picking up one of those affordable smart bands, or swapping their ageing and probably battered Samsung Galaxy Ring for an Oura Ring 5 or another rival. It would have been a perfect companion to go with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2, as using them together will presumably lead to better data and longer battery life like the Samsung Galaxy Ring currently does with Samsung’s smartwatches.

What’s next for the Samsung Galaxy Ring 2?

It’s rumoured to launch in early 2027, so we could see it at Unpacked alongside the Samsung Galaxy S27 series of phones. While it’s a case of ‘better late than never’, I still feel it’s a missed opportunity for Samsung this year. The Samsung Galaxy S25 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 are great devices, but the smart ring market is still growing.
