Qualcomm Gen 6 Snapdragon Phones: Full List of Flagship Devices and Features

Illustration of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Extreme chips powering flagship smartphones

Introduction

Qualcomm has unveiled its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processors, promising a leap in AI performance for premium Android smartphones. These chips will power a range of devices launching throughout 2024 and into 2025, and manufacturers have already confirmed which models will carry the new silicon.

Previous generation and the AI era

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 powered devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. With the Gen 6 family Qualcomm emphasizes the so‑called agentic AI era, meaning the chips can run large language models locally, power advanced computational photography, and enable real‑time translation and voice assistants without a data connection.

Honor Magic 9 Pro Max

The upcoming Honor Magic 9 Pro Max is slated to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Honor is likely to leverage the extra AI horsepower to boost its Arri‑branded video capabilities, delivering cinema‑grade recording in a flagship hand‑set.

iQoo 16 and iQoo Pad Ultra

Vivo’s performance‑focused iQoo sub‑brand will launch the iQoo 16 smartphone and the iQoo Pad Ultra tablet on 29 September. While the exact configuration has not been disclosed, the tablet is expected to adopt the Extreme variant, whereas the phone may ship with the standard Elite Gen 6.

Motorola Signature 27

Motorola’s next flagship, the Signature 27, will be the first device to showcase the full‑fat Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. The phone is positioned as a premium contender with advanced AI features that will roll out before the end of the year.

OnePlus 16

The OnePlus 16 will be the first OnePlus flagship that does not launch in Western markets. It will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, offering strong performance though not the absolute top tier of the Extreme chip.

RedMagic 12 Pro

Nubia’s gaming brand RedMagic confirms that the RedMagic 12 Pro will run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 when it arrives in early November, keeping the device at the cutting edge of mobile gaming performance.

Xiaomi 18 Pro series

Xiaomi splits its new silicon across the Xiaomi 18 Pro lineup. The standard Xiaomi 18 Pro will receive the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, while the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. The series launched in China today.

Other upcoming devices

Qualcomm also indicated that future phones from Vivo and the budget Redmi line from Xiaomi will incorporate the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, though specific models have not yet been announced.

What the new chips mean for consumers

The Elite and Extreme variants bring faster CPU cores, improved GPU performance, and dedicated AI accelerators that can handle on‑device large language models and real‑time image enhancement. Users can expect smoother multitasking, higher frame‑rate gaming, and more sophisticated camera processing without relying on cloud services.

Market impact and future outlook

By equipping flagship devices from brands like Honor, Motorola, and Xiaomi with the Extreme variant, Qualcomm aims to set a new performance baseline for AI‑centric Android phones. As more manufacturers adopt the Gen 6 silicon, developers will have a consistent platform to build on‑device AI apps, which could accelerate the shift away from cloud‑only solutions.

Qualcomm’s UK Market Struggles: Is a Tier-Based Approach the Answer?

Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme laptop chipset, designed to take on Apple's M-series in the UK market, with a focus on high-performance and low-power consumption, and a range of features including advanced AI and machine learning capabilities.

Qualcomm’s Tier-Based Approach: A Double-Edged Sword in the UK

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme is the company’s top-end laptop chipset, followed by the Snapdragon X2 Elite and Snapdragon X2 Plus. This tier-based approach is designed to take on Apple’s M-series, but it may be hurting Qualcomm’s position in the UK market.

A discussion on Reddit highlights the potential drawbacks of this strategy, suggesting that Qualcomm should focus on the high-end market before expanding to less expensive brackets. This could help the company to better compete with Apple and other rivals in the UK.

The UK market is highly competitive, with several players vying for dominance. Qualcomm’s partners have several options, but this may lead to confusion and dilute the brand’s overall impact. By focusing on the high-end market, Qualcomm can establish itself as a premium brand in the UK.

Qualcomm’s tier-based approach may be limiting its potential in the UK market. The company needs to analyse its strategy and consider a more focused approach to drive adoption and revenue growth. This could involve targeting specific segments, such as gaming or business laptops, and tailoring its products to meet the unique needs of these users.

The UK market is dynamic, with changing consumer behaviour and evolving technology trends. Qualcomm needs to stay ahead of the curve and adapt its strategy to meet the changing needs of its customers. By doing so, the company can improve its position in the UK market and drive long-term growth and success.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets are designed to provide high-performance and low-power consumption, making them ideal for a range of applications. However, the company’s tier-based approach may be limiting its ability to fully capitalize on these strengths. By streamlining its product lineup and focusing on the high-end market, Qualcomm can better showcase its capabilities and drive adoption in the UK.

The company’s partners play a crucial role in its success, and Qualcomm needs to work closely with them to develop targeted solutions for the UK market. This could involve collaborating on product development, marketing, and sales strategies to ensure that Qualcomm’s products meet the unique needs of UK consumers.

Qualcomm’s future in the UK market depends on its ability to adapt and evolve. The company needs to analyse its strategy and make adjustments to stay competitive. By focusing on the high-end market, targeting specific segments, and working closely with its partners, Qualcomm can drive growth and success in the UK.

Ultimately, Qualcomm’s tier-based approach may be a double-edged sword. While it provides a range of options for the company’s partners, it may also be limiting its potential in the UK market. By streamlining its product lineup and focusing on the high-end market, Qualcomm can better compete with its rivals and drive long-term growth and success.

Protecting Your MacBook at UK Airports: A Cautionary Tale

A person holding a MacBook at a UK airport security checkpoint, with a concerned expression, highlighting the importance of laptop protection during travel

MacBook Safety in UK Airports: A Growing Concern

When travelling through UK airports, it’s essential to take necessary precautions to protect your expensive hardware, such as your MacBook. The unibody aluminum chassis of Apple’s MacBook family offers sufficient durability, but it’s always a good practice to carry a bag with plenty of padding for that extra layer of cushioning.

A recent incident highlighted the risk of taking expensive hardware through airport security, with staff taking no responsibility for the damage caused. A MacBook owner’s device was dented after it fell off the security belt, and the airport staff were unaccommodating about damaging expensive hardware.

It’s crucial to analyse the situation and take steps to prevent such incidents from occurring. One way to do this is by using a padded bag or sleeve to protect your MacBook from scratches and dents. Additionally, being mindful of your belongings during the security check can help minimize the risk of damage.

UK airports have a responsibility to ensure the safety and security of passengers’ belongings. However, it’s also important for travellers to take ownership of their possessions and take necessary precautions to prevent damage. By being aware of the potential risks and taking steps to mitigate them, you can help protect your valuable hardware and enjoy a stress-free journey.

The behaviour of airport staff in such situations is also a cause for concern. It’s essential for them to be more accommodating and take responsibility for any damage caused to passengers’ belongings. This can be achieved through proper training and a customer-centric approach.

In conclusion, protecting your MacBook at UK airports requires a combination of awareness, precautions, and responsible behaviour from both travellers and airport staff. By working together, we can minimize the risk of damage and ensure a safe and enjoyable journey for all.

Furthermore, it’s worth considering the colour and design of your MacBook case, as a bright colour can make it more visible and less likely to be misplaced. Moreover, using a laptop sleeve with a secure closure can provide an extra layer of protection against scratches and dents.

Ultimately, the key to protecting your MacBook at UK airports is to be mindful of your belongings and take necessary precautions to prevent damage. By following these tips and being aware of the potential risks, you can help ensure the safety and security of your valuable hardware.

It’s also important to note that some UK airports offer additional security measures, such as dedicated laptop lanes, to help minimize the risk of damage. These measures can provide an extra layer of protection and peace of mind for travellers.

In addition to these measures, travellers can also take steps to prevent damage by handling their MacBooks with care and attention. This includes avoiding dropping or bumping the device, as well as keeping it away from liquids and other potential hazards.

By taking a proactive approach to protecting your MacBook, you can help ensure its safety and security, even in the event of an unexpected incident. This can provide valuable peace of mind and help you to enjoy your journey without worrying about your device.

In the event that your MacBook is damaged during a security check, it’s essential to report the incident to the airport staff immediately. This can help to ensure that the necessary steps are taken to address the issue and provide a resolution.

Moreover, it’s worth considering the use of a tracking device or a laptop lock to provide an additional layer of security for your MacBook. These devices can help to deter theft and provide a means of recovering your device if it’s lost or stolen.

Overall, protecting your MacBook at UK airports requires a combination of awareness, precautions, and responsible behaviour. By taking the necessary steps to protect your device, you can help ensure its safety and security, and enjoy a stress-free journey.

PlayStation Exclusive Games: No PC Ports for Single-Player Titles in the UK

A PlayStation console and controller, with a cityscape in the background, symbolising the exclusive gaming experience offered by PlayStation, with a focus on single-player narrative games like God of War and Ghost of Yotei

PlayStation’s Commitment to Exclusive Single-Player Games

In a recent town hall meeting, Herman Hulst, CEO of studio businesses at PlayStation, reaffirmed the company’s stance on single-player games, stating that they will remain exclusive to PlayStation consoles in the UK.

This decision comes after a report from Bloomberg suggested that PlayStation was moving away from bringing its first-party, narrative-driven single-player games to PC, instead focusing on multiplayer titles.

The move is seen as a strategic decision to maintain the uniqueness of PlayStation’s offerings, with games like God of War and Ghost of Yotei being exclusive to the console.

This approach will allow PlayStation to analyse the behaviour of its users and tailor its games to meet their needs, providing a unique gaming experience in the UK.

The decision has sparked debate among gamers, with some expressing disappointment at the lack of PC ports, while others applaud the move, citing the importance of exclusives in driving console sales.

PlayStation’s focus on exclusive games is likely to continue, with the company investing heavily in its first-party studios to produce high-quality, narrative-driven games that showcase the console’s capabilities.

The colour and vibrancy of PlayStation’s exclusive games are a major draw for gamers, and the company’s commitment to maintaining their exclusivity is a testament to its dedication to providing a unique gaming experience.

As the gaming landscape continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how PlayStation’s strategy plays out, and whether the decision to keep single-player games exclusive to the console will pay off in the long run.

One thing is certain, however: PlayStation’s exclusive games will remain a major factor in the company’s success, and gamers can look forward to a steady stream of high-quality titles in the years to come.

In conclusion, PlayStation’s decision to keep single-player games exclusive to the console is a bold move, but one that is likely to pay off, as the company continues to analyse the needs of its users and provide a unique gaming experience that sets it apart from the competition.

Oura Ring 5 Review: The Slimmest Smart Ring for UK Users – Features, Battery, and Price

Oura Ring 5 displayed on a fingertip, highlighting its slim titanium design and subtle colour options

Oura Ring 5 Review: The Slimmest Smart Ring for UK Users

The Oura Ring 5 arrives as a surprisingly compact update to the market‑leading Oura Ring line. At roughly 40 % smaller than the Ring 4, the new titanium band measures just 6.09 mm in width and can weigh as little as 2 g, making it feel almost weightless on the finger. Despite the reduction in size, Oura promises no compromise on performance, with battery life still quoted at six to nine days and the same suite of health sensors.

Designwise, the Ring 5 retains the premium feel of its predecessor. It is offered in six finishes – brushed silver, black, gold, stealth (matte black), deep rose and a standard silver – all applied to a hardened PVD coating that improves scratch resistance. While the earlier Ring 4 Ceramic Edition remains the most scuff‑proof option, the new coating is a noticeable step up for the titanium model. Sizing is unchanged from the Ring 4 range, covering sizes 6 to 13, and a free sizing kit is still available to ensure a perfect fit.

Inside the ring, Oura has kept the same sensor layout – two photodetectors, two sets of triple LEDs, a temperature sensor and an accelerometer – but has refined the hardware to boost accuracy. The device tracks steps, exercise, heart rate, sleep, stress and temperature, feeding the data into the Oura companion app, which continues to be the benchmark for smart‑ring analytics. The app provides daily readiness scores, sleep stage breakdowns and a symptom radar that can flag early signs of illness. New features such as Health Radar are rolling out first to US users, with blood‑pressure trend monitoring slated for later releases.

One notable change is the subscription model. While basic metrics remain free, full access to Oura’s insights requires a monthly fee of £5.99 or an annual payment of £69.99. This mirrors the pricing structure of many health‑tech platforms, but it does add an ongoing cost that potential buyers must consider.

Battery performance remains impressive for a ring of this size. Oura claims up to nine days of use on a single charge, and real‑world testing shows the device can comfortably last a week when the optional blood‑oxygen sensor is disabled. Charging is still performed via a dock‑style charger that takes about 80 minutes for a full charge. An optional portable charging case, sold separately for £99, can replenish the ring up to five times and is useful for travellers.

Pricing in the UK starts at £399 for the base titanium model and can rise to £499 for premium finishes. This represents a £50 increase over the Ring 4, plus the subscription cost. Compared with alternatives such as the Fitbit Air (£84) or the RingConn Gen 2 (£418.60), the Oura Ring sits at the high end of the market, though it still undercuts the Ultrahuman Ring Pro (£419) and the Samsung Galaxy Ring (£399).

For UK shoppers, the Ring 5 is available through Oura’s official store, Amazon UK, Currys and John Lewis. The older Ring 4 remains on sale for £349‑£399 and often appears in promotional events like Amazon Prime Day, offering a cheaper entry point for those satisfied with the larger form factor.

Should you upgrade? If you already own a Ring 4 and are happy with its size, style and performance, the Ring 5 may not be essential, especially as most new software features will be back‑ported to the older model. However, if a more discreet, lighter ring is a priority, the Ring 5 delivers that without sacrificing the core Oura experience.

Overall, the Oura Ring 5 solidifies Oura’s position as the benchmark for smart rings. Its refined design, reliable sensor suite and robust app ecosystem make it a compelling choice for health‑conscious UK consumers, provided the subscription cost fits within your budget.

Pixel 11a Excitement Builds

Pixel 11a render

Forget Pixel 11 – Pixel 11a is more exciting

Google’s Pixel 11 flagship phones have launched – but I’ve already got my eye on what’s coming after. While likely contenders for the title of 2026’s best phone, I’m finding it hard to get excited about the Pixel 11 series. Unless you care about the camera flash HiLight (I definitely don’t!), it looks to be more of the same from Google, but with an unappetising price rise.

I’m not about to claim that the Pixel 11a will be much different. Google will likely closely follow the Pixel 10a’s lead – a phone that epitomises the 2026 trend for tiny year-on-year upgrades. However, I’m still looking forward to its likely March 2027 launch much more than to testing the Pixel 11 series, even if there’s one potential dealbreaker.

No chipset compromise?

The leak that inspired this article is the most exciting by far. According to Mystic Leaks, who has a strong track record for Pixel news, the Pixel 11a will be powered by Google’s Tensor G6 chipset. That’s right, the same one we’re expecting across the Pixel 11 lineup.

While far from confirmed, this could be massive for the Pixel 11a. Remember, the Pixel 10a stuck with its predecessor’s Tensor G4 chip, so it’d be a huge two-generation leap. Performance on the Pixel 11a could get a big upgrade, similar to the Apple iPhone 15 Pro, which boasts a powerful A17 Bionic chip.

Cameras that sit almost flush with the back of the phone are massively underrated

When the Pixel 9a introduced the barely-there rear camera design, it was controversial. Many people lamented the loss of Pixel’s signature camera bar and a design devoid of any real personality. But, as I wrote in my review, it really didn’t bother me at the time. And after 15 months using almost exclusively huge, protruding rear cameras, my opinion on it has only become more favourable.

The Pixel 9a’s design is even more appealing than at launch, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S25, which also features a sleek design. Anyron Copeman / Foundry

Worth the weight (literally)

Another aspect of phone design that I believe people overlook is weight. Remember, this is something that you’ll be holding for multiple hours a day, or carrying in your pocket or bag. I recently switched from the 215g Galaxy Z Fold 7 to the regular Galaxy S26, which is just 167g. The 48g difference was instantly noticeable, and it’s made the S26 far more comfortable to use day-to-day.

Meanwhile, the Pixel 10a was a full 21g lighter than the base Pixel 10, with other models in the range even heavier, and it’s likely to be similar again this time. Trust me, ditching the glass back for plastic is well worth the trade-off, similar to the OnePlus 11, which also features a lightweight design.

The price

It’s no secret that phone prices are on the rise. The ongoing ‘RAMaggedon’, where incredible demand for memory chips (known as RAM) for AI has led to a major shortage and price hikes on many of the tech products which rely on them. For most people, buying a Pixel 11 means tying yourself down to a long, expensive contract.

The Pixel 11 series has indeed been subject to price hikes. The base Pixel 11, the cheapest route into the lineup, now starts at a hefty £879 (although for 256GB). Not exactly affordable for a lot of people! While the situation may be even worse by the time the Pixel 11a rolls around in early 2027, it’d be a real surprise to see Google hike prices by more than £100/$100, meaning it should cost under £600/$600 and remain well within mid-range phone territory, similar to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12.

Pixel Watch 5 Model Listing Confusion Explained

It’s no surprise that the Pixel Watch 5 is on the way. It’s been leaked in a few ways already, including one supposedly found at the bottom of the sea. Now, Google’s upcoming flagship smartwatch has been submitted to the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), but it brings with it some level of confusion.

The device appearing in the regular way helps to confirm that the Pixel Watch 5 is coming soon. It’s been seen there under the model numbers G25QD, G1XJ6, G0F3Y, and GFW3R – previously confirmed via BIS listing – and are all listed as a ‘wireless device’.

That’s all well and good since we’re expecting the usual set of four wearables: two sizes and a choice of connectivity. This is where the confusion comes in, because the FCC listings state that all four models have LTE (4G) as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. This implies there will be no cheaper Wi-Fi and Bluetooth-only configuration like normal, such as those found in the Apple Watch Series 10 or the Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 series.

While there’s some debate about whether Google is making some other Pro or Ultra model to go alongside this Pixel Watch 5, I think things are a lot less complicated than that. Sorry to be boring, but this listing is most likely due to the fact that all Pixel Watch 5 models will be manufactured with the same internals. So, the circuit board has a modem capable of 4G connectivity, but it’s simply switched off at firmware level before it leaves the factory.

It’s a little bit like how some vehicles leave the factory with a speed limiter because of their intended use. It’s still theoretically capable of a higher speed, with the same engine underneath, but has been modified. There’s bigger news here, perhaps the bigger revelation is that the Pixel Watch 5 won’t be upgraded to 5G to match the likes of the Apple Watch Series 11 or the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 with 5G capabilities.

To unpack a little further, this might be curious because upcoming smartwatches in 2026 are due to come with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite chipset, which does have 5G RedCap. This may well power a key rival, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 series, but that’s also expected to be limited to 4G LTE, similar to the iPad Air M2 with 4G connectivity.

The likely reason is that in the midst of the memory crisis, causing the price of tech to rise significantly, the cost of upgrading these devices to 5G isn’t worth it – particularly when most of the target market won’t notice or value the benefit. Instead, they may simply be buying a cheaper version to protect the profit margin, similar to the strategy used by Amazon during Amazon Prime Day UK.

We shouldn’t have too long to wait until we find out, since the Pixel Watch 5 is due to launch in August alongside the Pixel 11 phones and Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy Watch 9 series, along with the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, on 22 July at its rumoured Unpacked event.
