Pixel Watch 5 Leaks Reveal Minor Upgrades

The Pixel Watch 5 specs have leaked, and it’s a disappointing update. The new smartwatch features minor upgrades, including wrist-based Gemini Intelligence, better sleep tracking, a larger battery, and more storage. However, these upgrades are not significant enough to justify the higher starting price.

The Pixel Watch 5 will come with a 64GB storage capacity, double that of the Pixel Watch 4, and a slightly larger battery, with 332mAh and 465mAh capacities for the 41mm and 44mm models, respectively. The watch will also feature a more advanced version of Gemini, which can pre-empt tasks and suggest pre-written replies based on context.

In comparison to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 9, which features a slimmed-down chassis, longer battery life, and more expansive fitness tracking software, the Pixel Watch 5 feels like a minor update. The watch will run on Wear OS 7 and feature a Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated processor, as well as a Cortex-M55 coprocessor.

The leaked specs also reveal that the Pixel Watch 5 will have a higher starting price, with the 41mm model costing £369/$399 and the 45mm model costing £399/$429. This price increase, combined with the minor upgrades, makes the Pixel Watch 5 feel like a bad value compared to the Pixel Watch 4, which may remain on sale at a reduced price.

Google could benefit from having a budget-friendly option in the lineup, similar to the Apple Watch SE 3 or the Samsung Galaxy Watch FE. The Fitbit Charge 6 is a budget-friendly option, but it caters to the fitness tracker crowd and lacks proper smart features.

Here are the leaked Pixel Watch 5 specs in full: Screen: AMOLED LTPO Actua 360, 320 ppi, up to 3,000 nits; Processor: Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated + Cortex-M55 coprocessor; RAM: 3GB; Storage: 64GB; Battery 41mm/44mm: 332mAh / 465mAh; OS: Wear OS 7; Connectivity: Bluetooth 6.0, Wi-Fi, NFC, UWB; Resistance: 5ATM, IP68.
