Samsung’s 2027 Galaxy Lineup Might Be a Huge Headache

Choosing the right Samsung flagship used to be a relatively simple decision, with just two or three models to choose from. However, with the rumoured eight models set to launch in 2027, including the Samsung Galaxy S27, Samsung Galaxy S27+, Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra, prospective buyers might find themselves overwhelmed.

The first half of 2027 is expected to see the launch of four high-end Samsung Galaxy phones, including the Samsung Galaxy S27 and Samsung Galaxy S27+, followed by another four models later in the year. This expansion could be a nightmare for buyers, with too many options to choose from.

Too Much of a Good Thing

As a fan of Samsung phones, regularly recommending them to family and friends, pinpointing exactly which model to get is already an arduous process, with dozens of models to choose from. The Samsung Galaxy S26 and Samsung Galaxy S26+ are already part of a crowded lineup, and the addition of a ‘Pro’ model would only muddy the waters.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8, for example, is a lazy ‘upgrade’ that’s more expensive than last year’s Flip 7, while offering no clear-cut benefits. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S26+ sits in no man’s land, with the much cheaper Samsung Galaxy S25 FE offering everything most people need in a 6.7-inch phone.

A Simpler Approach

Four models would’ve made much more sense: the Samsung Galaxy S26 – a compact, affordable bar phone; the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra – an ultra-premium bar phone; the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 – a folding phone for entertainment; and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra – a folding phone for productivity.

By going in the opposite direction, Samsung risks confusing buyers like never before. Especially by adding a model which makes no sense, such as the Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro, which is likely to sit between the Plus and Ultra in terms of price, but with no unique selling point.

A Wise Move

With Apple set to enter the foldables fray, perhaps with a rival to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 9, Samsung should focus on the Z Fold 9 and Z Fold 9 Ultra, rather than reviving the Galaxy Z TriFold line. The CEO of SK Hynix, the world’s second biggest memory maker, has warned that 2027 will be ‘the worst year in the industry’s history from the supply perspective’, making it a terrible time to launch a second generation of tri-fold phones.
