Introduction

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to be unveiled on 22 July, and with it, the Korean giant’s future in the foldable market may be at stake. Leakers ‘fireuniverse’ and Ice Universe have suggested that this might be the last Flip from Samsung, with the company potentially shifting its focus to book-style devices.

Camera Upgrades

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7’s cameras were impressive, but the lack of a telephoto lens was a major compromise. The Z Flip 8 needs to address this issue by adding a half-decent telephoto lens to turn its solid cameras into a genuinely excellent setup. This would make it a much more appealing purchase, especially when compared to other flagship devices like the Apple iPhone 17 Pro or the Google Pixel 10 Pro.

Cover Screen Restrictions

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7’s cover screen is locked down by default, supporting only a handful of Samsung-approved apps and widgets. The Z Flip 8 needs to make it easy to remove these restrictions, allowing users to customise their cover display experience without having to go through a complex setup process. This would open up almost infinite possibilities for the cover display, making it a more useful feature.

Dust Resistance

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7’s complex hinge design makes it vulnerable to dust and particles, making it unsuitable for environments like the beach. The Z Flip 8 needs to upgrade to IP68 rating, like the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold or the Honor Magic V6, to provide full dust resistance and make it a more durable device.

Battery Life

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7’s battery life was underwhelming, and the Z Flip 8 needs to address this issue by introducing significant battery upgrades. A battery capacity of over 5000mAh would ensure comfortable all-day battery life for most users, and faster charging speeds, such as 45W, would make it a more convenient device to use.

Price Drop

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 was too expensive, and the Z Flip 8 needs to be significantly cheaper to attract more buyers. Samsung can make cost-effective compromises in other areas, such as using a previous generation chipset or a lower-resolution front-facing camera, to reduce the price without sacrificing too much performance.
