Don’t Believe the Hype: Oppo Find W Rumours

Following the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 in its new passport-style widescreen format, rumours have started flying around about regular phones doing the same. Primarily, a device called the Oppo Find W, which the Chinese firm is reportedly working on. The device, which would be a new ‘Find’ category for Oppo, is tipped to arrive early in 2027, offering a 16:10 aspect ratio screen where ‘W’ means wide.

Smartphones used to have much shorter screens back in the day but increasingly have moved to tall aspect ratios. A move back this way is certainly plausible, at least for some models, thanks to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and upcoming Apple iPhone Ultra.

It would provide users with an easier-to-hold and use phone, which is better for certain tasks like watching a lot of video content on the iPad Air M2 or Apple Watch Series 10. However, the Oppo Find W rumour getting some traction shouldn’t be believed. It comes from Tech Info, who says it will arrive alongside the Oppo Find X10 Ultra in 2027.

The account even offers the following specs for the device as well as an official-looking teaser image stating the device is “coming soon” along with the tagline “The Future Is Wider”. 6.4-inch 1.5K 16:10 LTPO OLED Display, Ultra Narrow Four sided Equal Bezels Design, Powered by Dimensity 9600 SoC.

The big problem is that this is by no means an official image – presumably made with AI – and was prompted by a post by notorious phone leaker Ice Universe. His post showed a similar image of the Oppo Find W with its boxier design. It’s now deleted, but an important piece of information remains in the form of a follow-up post stating it was “For entertainment only, don’t take it seriously.”

It doesn’t mean Oppo, or another phone manufacturer like Samsung or Apple, isn’t going to launch a device like this. In fact, it seems likely that at least one will try it, but don’t go saving up for a Find W just yet. Instead, keep an eye out for the latest Samsung Galaxy S25 or Apple iPhone 17, which may feature similar designs.
