One UI 9 Game-Changer

Samsung Galaxy S26 with One UI 9

Discovering the Hidden Gem of One UI 9

I recently had the opportunity to try out the beta version of Samsung’s One UI 9 on my Samsung Galaxy S26, and I must say, one feature has truly impressed me – the AI Network Guard. This innovative tool has been a game-changer in helping me manage my screen time and reduce mindless internet use.

As someone who has struggled with the addictive nature of social media and email clients, I found the AI Network Guard to be extremely effective. By disabling the internet connection when I try to open a restricted app, I am forced to be more intentional and committed to my online activities. This feature is particularly useful for apps like TikTok and Instagram, which can be significant distractions.

How AI Network Guard Works

The AI Network Guard is a simple yet powerful tool that can be enabled through the Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi menu on your Samsung Galaxy S25 or S26. Once enabled, you can set a password and choose which apps to restrict, as well as set a schedule for automatic restrictions. I found this feature to be particularly useful in limiting my use of web browsers and games during certain times of the day.

While the AI Network Guard is a great feature, it does have one major flaw – its inflexibility. The scheduling tool is too simplistic, and it would be beneficial to have more flexibility in setting different schedules for different days of the week. For example, I would like to be able to restrict certain apps during the week but loosen the restrictions on the weekends.

Other Features of One UI 9

Aside from the AI Network Guard, One UI 9 offers several other features, including new clock styles on the lock screen, the ability to redact information in Samsung Notes, and thicker quick settings buttons and toggles. While these features are nice, they are not as significant as the AI Network Guard.

In my opinion, the AI Network Guard is the only reason to download the One UI 9 beta right now. The other features, while useful, are not enough to justify the update on their own. However, with the AI Network Guard, One UI 9 is a must-have for anyone looking to manage their screen time and reduce distractions.

One UI 9 is expected to debut on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8 on 22 July, before rolling out to all compatible Samsung Galaxy phones in the coming months. If you’re eager to try out the beta, it’s available now on the Samsung Galaxy S26, S25, and S24 handsets.
