Google Pixel Tag: A Rival to Apple AirTag
Google is set to unveil its Pixel 11 series of phones on 12 August, and while most details about the devices have been leaked, a new accessory has also been revealed. The Google Pixel Tag, a Bluetooth tracker, has been spotted, and it’s expected to be a rival to the Apple AirTag.
The Pixel Tag has an oblong shape similar to that of the Fitbit Inspire’s main module, and it features a ‘G’ logo and a notification light. The device has the model number GA12506 and comes in a colour called Fog Light. However, it’s unclear if the Pixel Tag will come in other colourways or what its specs are, such as if it features ultra-wideband like the Samsung Galaxy S25’s SmartTag.
Features and Specifications
According to translated marketing material, the Google Pixel Tag smart tracker helps users quickly and reliably locate their lost items using the secure ‘Find My Device’ network. The tracker is compact, lightweight, and durable, and it attaches discreetly to important items. It also features a loud speaker for easy nearby search and is designed with user privacy and personal data in mind, similar to the Apple Watch Series 10’s Find My feature.
While the Pixel Tag doesn’t have a built-in method of attaching to a set of keys or similar, users can presumably buy a case to do that. The price of the Pixel Tag is still unknown, but it’s possible that Google may give away free Pixel Tags with the Pixel 11 phones as an incentive, similar to how Amazon offers discounts on its products during Amazon Prime Day UK.
Comparison to Other Trackers
The Google Pixel Tag is not the only Bluetooth tracker available in the market. The Apple AirTag, for example, features ultra-wideband technology and has a range of accessories available, including a leather smart cover. The Samsung Galaxy S25‘s SmartTag, on the other hand, features a more compact design and comes with a lower price tag. The Google Pixel Tag will have to compete with these devices, as well as other trackers like the Tile Mate, which is compatible with both Android and iOS devices, including the iPad Air M2.
Google may also offer discounts on its Pixel 11 phones and Pixel Tag during the upcoming Black Friday UK sales, similar to how other retailers offer smartphone discounts 2025. However, this is speculation, and we’ll have to wait until the Made by Google launch event to find out more about the Pixel Tag and its pricing.
