Intel Shifts CPU Production to Servers

Intel Shifts Focus to Server CPUs

Intel is shifting its manufacturing capacity from consumer processors to server CPUs, such as the Intel Xeon 6, due to high demand for AI-driven technologies. This shift in production is a response to what CEO Lip-Bu Tan calls ‘one of the most significant supply shortages in history’. The company is prioritizing the production of Xeon 6 and expanding its fabrication and packaging capacity. However, Intel expects the shortages to remain severe in the first half of 2027, with some relief expected in the second half.

The demand for server CPUs is being driven by the growing need for artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities, which require powerful processing power. Intel’s Xeon 6 series, which includes products like the Intel Xeon Platinum 8380H, is well-positioned to meet this demand. Other companies, such as Apple, are also investing in AI-driven technologies, with products like the iPad Air M2 and Apple Watch Series 10.

In addition to Intel’s Xeon 6 series, other server CPUs like the AMD EPYC 7763 are also in high demand. The Samsung Galaxy S25 and other smartphones are also driving demand for AI-driven technologies, with many devices relying on cloud-based services powered by server CPUs.
